Staying hydrated year round is important, but is vital during the hot summer months! Especially if you’re spending lots of time outside in the sun! The human body is made up of almost 60% water! To learn more about this, visit here.

Drinking plenty of water throughout your day is important, but certain fruits and veggies can also help to keep you hydrated. Eating produce high in water content is a great idea to supplement your water consumption and ensure you stay hydrated. The following vegetables and fruits are high in water content, most of them being made of 90% or more water!

  • Watermelon
  • Lettuce
  • Cucumber
  • Celery
  • Strawberry
  • Bok Choy
  • Radish
  • Zucchini
  • Bell Pepper
  • Grapefruit 
  • Cauliflower
  • Peach
  • Tomato
  • Cantaloupe
  • Okra

The RDI (Reference Dietary Intake) for water consumption is 130 oz per day for males, and 95 oz per day for females. Though anyone who is very active and/or spends most of their day outdoors will need more than that. Some people may even need up to 500 oz of water per day! Drinking this much water can be difficult for some, so adding these juicy fruits and vegetables into your summer diet can be very helpful!


Extra tip- Try drinking coconut water as a healthier alternative to Gatorade or Powerade!
